Our most popular Barcelona chairs

Start with our four best sellers. All of them can be sent to an address in Spain.

Silla, sillón or butaca? It is the same Barcelona chair

Search for this chair in Spain and you will find three names. Silla means chair. Sillón and butaca both mean armchair. They all point to the same piece.

The name silla can mislead you. This is not a dining chair. It is a low, wide lounge chair for resting, reading or talking. Think of it as a living room seat.

Ours is a Barcelona chair replica. That means a new chair, made by us, that follows the 1929 design of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich. We label it as a replica everywhere on our site.

You can buy the Barcelona chair on its own, or the Barcelona chair and ottoman as a set. The ottoman is the low stool that matches the chair.

Where in Spain we deliver, and what it costs you

Spain is not one delivery zone. Many shops send free only to the mainland, then add a charge for the islands or leave them out. Here is how it works with us.

Mainland Spain

From Galicia to Andalucía, GLS delivers free. Your chair leaves our warehouse inside the EU, so there is no customs charge. VAT is already in the price.

Balearic Islands

Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza get the same free GLS delivery. The islands are inside the EU VAT area, so there is no import tax to pay when your chair arrives.

Canary Islands

The Canaries are part of Spain but sit outside the EU VAT area. They use their own tax, called IGIC. A parcel from the mainland can face import paperwork and IGIC on arrival. Email us first and we will tell you what applies.

Ceuta and Melilla

These two cities are also outside the EU VAT area. They charge a local tax called IPSI on goods that come in. Please email hello@sederica.com before you order.

There is no minimum spend. One chair ships free, just like a pair. Sending a chair to family in another country? See every country we deliver to.

Your rights when you buy from Spain

Spanish consumer law gives you two clear protections. We add one more.

  • 14 days to change your mind. After delivery, you have 14 days to return the chair without giving a reason.
  • We pay for the return. The law lets a shop ask you to pay the cost of sending a return back. For a big box, that can be a lot. We cover it, so you only need to pack the chair.
  • A 2-year legal guarantee. Since 2022, Spanish law protects new goods for 2 years from delivery. If something is faulty, we repair or replace it.

Replicas and the law

Rules on copying furniture designs are not the same in every European country. We do not give legal advice about Spain on this page. Our legal disclaimer explains how we describe and sell replica furniture.

Born in Barcelona: the city's side of the story

The chair was first shown on Montjuïc, the hill above the city, in 1929.

That year Barcelona held a huge International Exposition. Countries from around the world built halls on the hill. One of them was Germany's, a flat-roofed building of glass, stone and steel. People now call it the Barcelona Pavilion. The chair was made to go inside it, which is why some shops sell it as the Barcelona Pavilion chair.

King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie came to open the German hall. When the fair closed, the building was taken apart.

More than fifty years later, Barcelona decided to bring it back. Architects rebuilt the Pavilion on its first site, and it opened again in 1986. It is open to visitors today. If you live in or visit Barcelona, you can see the chair's design in the room it was made for.

The design itself came from Germany, and we tell that part on our page for Barcelona chairs in Germany.

Choosing a leather Barcelona chair for a Spanish home

Pick the colour for your light. Many Spanish homes are bright. White and pale leather look fresh in a sunny room but show marks sooner. Black and tan hide daily use well.

Place it out of direct sun. Strong afternoon sun through a balcony door can fade and dry leather. A spot a little back from the window keeps the colour longer.

Think about your floor. The steel frame sits right on the floor. On tiles or marble, small felt pads stop scratches and scraping sounds.

Leave room for the ottoman. With the stool in front, the pair takes much more floor space than the chair alone. Check the sizes on our black leather Barcelona chair before you choose.

For a coffee or a book, our Eileen Gray-style adjustable side table fits neatly beside the chair.

What you get

  • Chair alone, or chair and ottoman
  • Polished stainless steel X frame
  • Button-tufted leather cushions
  • Black, white, tan and more
  • Assembly guide with parts list
  • Prices in euros, VAT included

Talk to us before you buy

Not sure which colour suits your room? Wondering if the chair fits through your door or lift? Ask us first.

Use the live chat on any page, or email hello@sederica.com. We would rather answer a question today than handle a return next week.

Once your chair arrives, the assembly guide on each product page walks you through the parts, step by step.

Barcelona chair Spain: delivery, returns and guarantee

Is delivery free to Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza?

Yes. GLS delivers free to the Balearic Islands, the same as mainland Spain. There is no minimum spend and no import tax, because the islands are inside the EU VAT area.

Will I pay IGIC if I live in the Canary Islands?

You may. The Canary Islands are outside the EU VAT area and use their own tax, IGIC. Please email hello@sederica.com before you order, and we will tell you what applies to your address.

Is the Barcelona chair a silla or a sillón?

It is a sillón, or armchair. Many people in Spain call it the silla Barcelona, but it is a low lounge chair for the living room, not a dining chair.

What guarantee do I get when I buy from Spain?

Spanish consumer law gives new goods a 2-year legal guarantee from delivery. If your chair has a fault in that time, we repair or replace it.

Who pays for a return from Spain?

We do. You have 14 days after delivery to change your mind, and we cover the cost of sending the chair back.

Can I see the Barcelona Pavilion today?

Yes. The Pavilion was taken apart after the 1929 fair and rebuilt on the same site on Montjuïc in Barcelona. It reopened in 1986 and is open to visitors.
