This Eames dining chair set of 4 brings a soft light blue to the table, with four matching chairs arriving in a single order. Each replica pairs a smooth injection-moulded ABS shell with solid beech dowel legs and a dark wire cross-brace, inspired by the side chair Charles and Ray Eames introduced in 1950. At Sederica we finish this version for everyday meals, and we call it what it is: a replica.
Replica Eames DSW Dining Chair: Shell, Legs and Brace
The shell is ABS, a hard plastic moulded as one continuous seat and back. Many shell chairs on the market use polypropylene, which flexes slightly more. ABS feels firmer under you and has a smooth, closed surface, so a damp cloth lifts most marks from the light blue without any scrubbing.
A UV-stable finish protects the colour. Pastel shades are usually the first to wash out in strong sun, so this matters more on a light blue chair than on a dark one. The finish helps stop the shell from turning chalky or patchy near a bright window.
The wood legs are solid beech, a close-grained European hardwood. They are joined by a wire cross-brace that keeps them square under load. Pale beech and light blue sit close together in tone, so the chair looks light rather than high-contrast. The base fixes to the shell with four screws, the same construction used on every DSW dining chair in our range.
The seat has no arms. Its back curves around your lower spine and the seat dips gently in the middle, so you settle into the chair instead of perching on it. Without arms in the way, you can turn sideways to talk to someone at the end of the table.
Eiffel DSW Dining Chair: A Design That Began With Colour
When Charles and Ray Eames brought their moulded shell chairs to market in 1950, the shells were fibreglass. Until then, fibreglass had only been used uncoloured, so the couple spent long days at the factory mixing pigments. Their first shades were greige, a warm elephant-hide grey and a translucent parchment, and sea-foam green, yellow and red followed soon after.
The shells grew out of the couple’s entry to a 1948 Museum of Modern Art competition for low-cost furniture. Several bases were designed to fit them. The wooden version with metal struts is the one now known as the DSW, often called the Eiffel base. Our reproduction follows that shape in ABS rather than fibreglass. There is more on the couple’s work on our Charles and Ray Eames designer page.
Light Blue Dining Chairs Set of 4: Rooms Where the Colour Works
Light blue adds colour without taking over the room. It sits well with white kitchen units, oak or ash flooring and the pale palettes you often find in Scandinavian and Dutch homes. Around a round table, the four chairs make a small mid-century dining set that feels relaxed.
In southern Europe it works just as well with terracotta floor tiles, where the cool blue and warm clay balance each other. A wooden tabletop in oak, beech or walnut draws out the warmth of the legs and stops the shells from looking cold.
One honest point about light. In a north-facing room the blue will look cooler and slightly greyer than in our photos, while warm evening bulbs soften it. Screens also show colour differently, so if the exact shade matters to you, compare it in your own room when the set arrives.
Four chairs suit a table for four, and light blue also works in a mixed set. A common layout puts two light blue chairs at the ends of a table lined with white ones. If you need six seats, add the light blue set of two to this set.
Eames Style Dining Chair Set of 4: When It Suits and When It May Not
This set suits family kitchens, first homes, holiday flats and small studios or cafés that want colour without fabric to clean. The shells wipe down after every meal. A pale shade also hides dust better than black and hides food marks better than white.
It may not be the right choice for a formal or dark-toned dining room, where black or walnut sits more comfortably. Light blue is also a colour you notice every day, so if you redecorate often, a neutral shade gives you more freedom. If you want padding for long dinners, look through our Eames-style dining chair collection, because this ABS seat has no cushion.
What Arrives in the Box
This 4-pack contains four light blue shells, four beech leg bases, the screws and an Allen key. Each chair needs four screws to join the base to the shell, so one person can put the whole set together.

Caring for Light Blue Shells and Beech Legs
For everyday marks, use warm water and a little mild soap on a soft cloth. Wipe again with a rinsed cloth, then dry the seat so no water spots are left on the smooth surface. Before using anything stronger, test it on the underside of the seat first.
New dark denim can leave a faint blue tint on any pale seat. It shows less on light blue than on white, but wipe it off soon instead of letting it build up. Keep nail-polish remover and other solvents away from the shell altogether.
Natural beech slowly deepens to a warmer honey tone after years of daylight. This is normal for the wood, and all four chairs change together if they stand in similar light. Wipe the legs with a barely damp cloth and dry them straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add more light blue chairs to this set later?
Yes. The same light blue chair is also sold as a set of two, so you can go from four seats to six. For the closest colour match, order both sets at the same time. Chairs bought months apart normally match well, but moulded colours can vary very slightly between production runs, and that is easier to see on a pastel than on black or white.
Is light blue a sensible colour with young children?
It is a practical middle ground. Light blue shows fewer crumbs and less dust than black, and it hides everyday food marks better than white. The one-piece shell has no seams or cushions, so yoghurt and sauce come off with a damp cloth. The 45 cm seat suits children who already sit at an adult table, but toddlers will still need a booster seat.
Will the light blue fade near a window?
The shell has a UV-stable finish that helps stop the colour fading or turning patchy in normal daylight. A room with morning or afternoon sun is fine. If a chair would sit in strong midday sun behind glass every day, move it slightly out of the direct beam or lower a blind during the hottest hours, as you would with most coloured furniture.
How does this compare with a licensed Eames dining chair set of 4?
This is a replica set, sold by Sederica and inspired by the 1950 Eames side chair. It is not made or licensed by the companies that produce the design under licence. The shape and proportions follow the classic DSW, but the shell is ABS rather than polypropylene or fibreglass, and the legs are solid beech. Our Legal Disclaimer sets out the full terms.
Can I use these chairs at a desk or a kitchen island?
At a desk, yes. The 45 cm seat height suits standard desks and tables of about 72 to 76 cm, and the armless shape slides underneath neatly. A kitchen island or bar counter is usually 90 cm or higher, so it needs bar stools instead. On these chairs you would sit too low to eat comfortably at that height.
