Our Eames style lounge chair tan brown and walnut set pairs soft Italian aniline leather with a walnut veneer shell and a polished chrome base, and the matching ottoman comes with it. It is a Sederica reproduction inspired by the lounge chair Charles and Ray Eames introduced in 1956. We built this version for people who want a warm, light-brown chair that still looks sharp in a modern room. The chrome is what separates it from our other tan sets.
Why Choose the Eames Style Lounge Chair Tan Walnut Chrome Finish?
Tan leather and walnut sit close together in tone. Neither one dominates, so the chair reads as one warm shape instead of a dark shell holding pale cushions. That makes it easier to place than a high-contrast finish, especially in a smaller living room.
The polished chrome base changes the mood at floor level. It is brighter and more reflective than a satin metal base, which gives this mid-century tan chair a cleaner, modern chrome edge. If your room already has steel lamp stems, glass shelves or a chrome side table such as our E1027-style table, the base will tie in with them.
We would point you to this warm tan walnut pairing if your floor is oak, ash or pale laminate and your walls are white, cream, sage or soft grey. On a dark walnut floor the shell can disappear into the boards. A rug underneath solves that.
What the Chair Is Made Of, and What Each Part Does
Tan brown leather
The cushions are covered in soft Italian aniline leather. Aniline is dyed through and left without a thick surface coat, so you feel the hide and its natural grain from the first evening. In return, it records use: the tan brown leather deepens where your arms and head rest. If you like leather that looks lived-in after a year, that is the appeal.
Each cushion is hand-sewn, then welted and piped. The piping gives every edge a clear line, and in our photos you can see the buttons that pull each cushion into its soft, quilted shape.
American walnut veneer shell
Each shell is a 7-layer laminated veneer, a build that resists cracking and warping through humid summers and heated winters. Look at the edge of a shell and you can count the layers as a thin pale band.
The walnut veneer has a warm, figured grain and covers both faces of every shell. You can turn the chair’s back to the room, or stand it in the middle of an open-plan space, and no unfinished surface shows.
Polished chrome 5-star base
The chair turns on a polished chrome 5-star base with a 360-degree swivel. You can face the window, the screen or the person beside you without dragging it across the floor. The ottoman stands on its own four-leg chrome base, as our photos show.
The seat and back shells join through shock mounts, so they flex slightly under your weight. You feel it as a soft landing when you sit back, and it is the reason the fixed recline never feels rigid.

With the ottoman in front and a gap for your legs, the set needs a strip of floor about 90 cm wide and 1.6 to 1.7 metres long. Leave a hand’s width behind the headrest as well, so the shell clears the wall when you swivel.
Before you order, mark that footprint on the floor with masking tape and walk around it. On parquet or soft wood boards, felt pads under the feet are a sensible extra. For layout ideas, see our mid-century modern living room guide.
The 1956 Design Behind Our Reproduction
Charles and Ray Eames spent several years developing their lounge chair before it was shown to the public in 1956 on the American television programme Home, hosted by Arlene Francis. The construction was new for a chair meant for rest: three moulded plywood shells, loose leather cushions and a metal swivel base.
The earliest chairs used Brazilian rosewood. That veneer was withdrawn around 1990 to protect the species, and walnut has been one of the finishes most closely tied to the design ever since. You can read more on our Charles and Ray Eames designer page, in our history of the Eames lounge chair, or on Wikipedia.
Our chair follows that 1956 design and is made to Sederica’s own specification. It is not produced, endorsed or approved by the Eames family or by any other company that makes the design.
Who This Chair Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere
Our Eames style lounge chair tan set suits you if you want one comfortable seat for reading, music or long evenings, with your legs fully supported. It works well in bright flats with pale wood, and in rooms where brown leather is welcome but a dark, heavy chair is not.
A few points to weigh before you order:
- Strong sun. Aniline leather can fade unevenly beside an unshaded south-facing window. Blinds help, and so does a darker leather.
- Children and pets. Tan aniline absorbs spills quickly and shows scratches sooner than black.
- Adjustability. Nothing on this chair adjusts. The recline and the headrest height are fixed.
- Chrome upkeep. A mirror finish shows fingerprints and dust more readily than satin metal.

Caring for Tan Leather, Walnut and Chrome
- Leather: dust with a soft, dry cloth and blot spills at once instead of rubbing. Twice a year, use a conditioner made for aniline leather, tested first on a hidden spot. Hand cream and hair products darken the arms and headrest fastest.
- Walnut: wipe with a dry microfibre cloth. Walnut tends to turn lighter and more golden over years of daylight, so rotate the chair now and then if one side faces a window.
- Chrome: wipe with a barely damp cloth, then dry it. Skip abrasive pads and polishes, and dry the base after mopping so water spots do not settle on it.
What You Are Buying from Sederica
This is a Sederica reproduction, sold under our own name. We list only the materials and measurements we can confirm, and because walnut is a natural veneer, the grain on your shell will differ from the photos.
Your set ships from our EU warehouse with VAT included and a 2-year warranty. See our Legal Disclaimer for terms.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does tan brown differ from your cognac and camel leathers?
Tan brown is a smooth aniline leather with an even colour. Our cognac and camel sets use a waxy leather with a more matt, vintage surface that typically shows lighter marks where it creases. Choose tan brown if you want the cleaner, more uniform look.
Is walnut or rosewood the better match for tan leather?
Neither is better. They give different results. Walnut has a calmer grain close in tone to the leather, so the chair looks lighter and more relaxed. Rosewood is darker with strong stripes, which turns the shell into a feature of its own.
Does the chair recline or adjust?
The recline angle is fixed, and there is no height or tilt lever. The shock-mounted shells flex slightly as you sit back, and the base swivels through 360 degrees. The ottoman is separate, so you can pull it closer or push it away to suit your legs.
Is it comfortable for tall people?
The headrest is fixed and the chair stands 86 cm high overall. On lounge chairs of this size, sitters well over 1.85 m sometimes find the top cushion meets their neck instead of their head. If that could be you, measure against a chair you already own before ordering.
Does walnut veneer change colour in sunlight?
Yes, slowly. Walnut tends to lighten and warm over years of daylight, while the tan leather darkens where it is handled. Keeping the chair out of direct sun and turning it occasionally helps both age evenly.
