This is our tan Eames lounge chair replica with its matching ottoman, built from three materials that rarely share one chair: soft tan brown aniline leather, dark-streaked rosewood veneer and a polished chrome swivel base. The leather and wood carry the warm mid-century character. The chrome adds a brighter, cooler line at floor level. It suits a reading corner, a study or a living room with modern fixtures, and Sederica designs and sells it as a reproduction of the 1956 Charles and Ray Eames lounge chair.
Tan Brown Leather, Rosewood Veneer and a Chrome Base
The cushions are upholstered in soft Italian aniline leather. Aniline leather is dyed through without a heavy surface coating, so you feel the hide itself rather than a plastic-like film. It changes with use: the tan slowly deepens and picks up a soft sheen where your arms and head rest. We think that slow patina is the whole reason to choose aniline.
In daylight, the leather on this set reads as a warm tan brown with a faint reddish undertone. It is deeper than camel and much lighter than chocolate brown. That keeps the chair looking open in a room instead of heavy.
The shells carry rosewood veneer, also known as palisander, with dark streaks running through an amber-brown ground. The veneer covers both the inner and outer faces, so the back of the chair looks as finished as the front. This matters more than most buyers expect, because a lounge chair usually stands out in the room and is seen from behind. No two shells show the same grain, since the pattern comes from the wood itself.
Beneath the veneer, each shell is a 7-layer laminated build that resists cracking and warping. You can see those layers as the pale line running around every shell edge. The shells are shock-mounted, so the seat and back give slightly as you settle in. That small flex, rather than a lever or mechanism, creates the deep, easy recline.
The chair turns on a polished 5-star chrome base with a full 360-degree swivel, and the ottoman stands on a matching four-star base. Chrome has a mirror finish, noticeably brighter than the satin glow of polished aluminium. Next to dark rosewood, it gives the set a crisp, graphic edge.

The 1956 Design Behind Our Eames Lounge Chair with Ottoman Replica
Charles and Ray Eames introduced their lounge chair and ottoman in 1956. They set out to create a modern take on the English club chair, and Charles wanted it to have the relaxed feel of a well-worn baseball glove. The design has stayed in production ever since and is held in the collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, as the history of the Eames Lounge Chair records.
Rosewood was the veneer on the earliest chairs, which is why this wood still feels closest to the first sets. You can read more about the couple and their work on our Charles and Ray Eames designer page. Our set is a Sederica reproduction of that design and is not produced or endorsed by the design’s rights holders.
Why This Tan Leather Eames Chair Works with Rosewood and Chrome
Most lounge chairs pair warm leather with warm wood and stop there. The chrome base adds a third, cooler note, and that makes this set easier to place in a contemporary room. The polished metal catches light near the floor, while the tan and rosewood keep the upper half soft.
It sits well against grey or white walls, pale oak or concrete floors, and steel, glass or black metal details. If you already own chrome pieces, such as a Barcelona-style chair or tubular steel dining chairs in the Bauhaus tradition, the base will echo them. In a room made entirely of warm wood and textiles, a satin aluminium base may blend in more quietly.
Who This Set Suits, and When It May Not
This set suits you if you want a reading or listening chair with full leg support. It also works as the one statement piece in a study or home office, or in a living room where it will be seen from all sides. Plan for about 1.5 metres of depth with the ottoman in front, and leave clearance behind so the chair can swivel freely.
A few honest points before you order. Aniline leather is absorbent, so it shows water marks, oils and scratches more readily than coated leather; if you have young children or pets with sharp claws, a darker leather will hide marks better. Chrome shows fingerprints and needs an occasional wipe. The chair weighs 24 kg, so moving it between rooms is easier with two people.
The tan will not stay exactly the shade it arrives in. If you want a colour that never changes, this leather is not for you.

Caring for Tan Aniline Leather, Rosewood and Chrome
For the leather, dust weekly with a dry, soft cloth, and blot any spill straight away rather than rubbing it. Every six months, apply a conditioner made for aniline leather to keep it supple. Keep the chair out of strong direct sun and away from radiators, which dry leather over time.
The rosewood veneer needs only a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid silicone sprays and wet cloths, which can leave a film on the finish. Wipe the chrome base with a soft, dry cloth, and skip abrasive cleaners that could scratch the mirror surface.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ottoman included with this set?
Yes. The matching ottoman comes with the chair as one set, in the same tan brown aniline leather with a rosewood veneer shell. It stands on its own chrome four-star base. Ordering both together is the easiest way to get a close match in leather tone and veneer, which is harder to achieve if you add an ottoman later.
Will the tan brown leather darken over time?
Yes, gradually. Aniline leather has no heavy protective coating, so light, touch and natural skin oils slowly deepen the tan and add a soft sheen, most visibly on the armrests, seat front and headrest. The change takes months to years. Conditioning twice a year and keeping the chair out of strong sun helps it age evenly rather than in patches.
What is the difference between a chrome base and a polished aluminium base?
The difference is the finish. Chrome is bright and mirror-like, reflecting its surroundings and contrasting sharply with dark rosewood. Polished aluminium has a softer, satin glow that blends more quietly with warm interiors. Chrome shows fingerprints a little more, so expect to wipe it now and then. Choose chrome if your room already has steel, glass or other bright metal.
How much space do I need for the chair and ottoman?
Allow about 1.5 metres of depth and just under a metre of width with the ottoman in front of the chair. The chair measures 87 × 87 × 82 cm and the ottoman 65 × 54 × 54 cm. Leave some clearance behind and beside the chair so the 360-degree swivel does not bring the headrest into contact with a wall or shelf.
