Thin pad or soft pad: which one suits your day?
This is the question most buyers ask us. Both chairs share the same slim frame. The difference is how the seat and back are padded.
- Thin pad (EA117 low back, EA119 high back). The cover is pulled tight with narrow ribs running across it. It feels firm and looks very slim from the side. Pick it if you like a firm seat, or for a meeting table where people sit for an hour or two. See every ribbed thin pad office chair.
- Soft pad (EA217 low back, EA219 high back). Thick, separate cushions sit on the seat and back. You sink in a little more. Pick it if you sit at your desk most of the day and want more padding under you. See every soft pad office chair.
Next, choose the back. A low back stops around the middle of your back. A high back reaches up to your shoulders, which many people prefer for long calls or leaning back to read.
Is your study in a warm top-floor flat, or do you sit for very long hours? A mesh office chair lets air pass through the seat and back, so it stays cooler.

Working from home in Germany? Your chair may count as work equipment
In Germany, a desk chair you use for your job can count as Arbeitsmittel. That means work equipment, and you can list it on your tax return.
If one item costs up to €800 before VAT (€952 with 19% VAT), you can usually claim the full cost in the year you buy it. Above that, the cost is spread over several years.
If you are employed, the claim only lowers your tax when your total work costs are higher than the standard allowance. If you also use the chair for private things, you may only claim the work share. Keep your order confirmation as proof of what you paid.

What an Eames-style office chair replica is
