Best-selling office chairs to start with

Tall? Check the fit before you order
The Dutch are still the tallest people in the world. Dutch men born in 2001 average 182.9 cm, and women 169.3 cm, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). At those heights, a chair that suits most people can end up too low for you.
So take a few minutes to measure. You only need a tape measure and a kitchen chair.
- Measure your knee height. Sit in the shoes you wear at your desk, feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the back of your knee. Then open the product page. If your number is above the top of the chair's seat height range, the chair will feel low for you.
- Check the seat depth. Sit right back and measure from behind your bottom to the back of your knee. A good seat is a little shorter than that, so two or three fingers fit between the seat edge and your knee.
- Choose your back height. A low back supports you up to about the middle of your back, and a little less on a tall body. For support higher up, pick a high back: the EA119 thin pad or the EA219 soft pad.
- Check your desk last. With the seat set right, your forearms should rest flat on the desk with relaxed shoulders. If the desk now feels too low, raise the desk. Don't drop the chair to match it.
Still unsure? Send your height and your desk height to hello@sederica.com, or ask on live chat. If we think a chair will be too low for you, we will say so.
Ribbed thin pad or soft pad?
The frame is the same on both. Only the padding changes, so choose by how you like a seat to feel.
| Thin pad (ribbed) | Soft pad | |
|---|---|---|
| Models | EA117 low back, EA119 high back | EA217 low back, EA219 high back |
| How it is made | One cover pulled tight over the frame, with stitched ribs | Thick, separate cushions on the seat and back |
| How it feels | Firm. You sit on top of it. | Softer. You settle into it a little. |
| From the side | Very thin and flat | Fuller, with rounded panels |
| Suits | A firm seat that keeps you upright, or a desk in the living room where a slim chair looks lighter | More cushion under you on long days at a home desk |
| Browse | Ribbed office chairs | Soft pad office chairs |
If you are tall, look at the high back versions first, because the backrest reaches further up.
Would you rather have air than padding? Our Eames-style mesh chairs have an open weave on the seat and back, so they feel cooler on warm days.

Buying through your employer? Ask about NPR 1813 first
In the Netherlands, your employer must help you set up a safe and healthy workplace at home, not only at the office. This duty comes from the Arbowet, the Dutch law on working conditions. Some employers meet it by lending you a chair or paying towards one.
Some employers will only pay for a chair that meets NPR 1813. This is a Dutch guideline for office chairs, with bigger adjustment ranges for taller and shorter people. The European standard, EN 1335, is sized for people from about 1.51 m to 1.92 m.
Our chairs are design replicas, and we do not sell them as NPR 1813 or EN 1335 certified. If your employer is paying, check their rules before you order. If you are buying for yourself, use the fit check above to make sure the chair suits your height.
This is general information, not legal advice. Your employer's own policy decides what they will pay for.
Sederica office chairs in brief
Customers order the black EA117 more than any other office chair we sell. Its product page has the full size table and close-up photos: EA117 thin pad ribbed chair in black.
We never label a whole range as leather. Depending on the model, the cover is leather, PU faux leather or mesh. Check the product page for the exact cover before you buy.
The shapes follow office chairs that Charles and Ray Eames created between 1958 and 1969. To compare every model, see the full Eames-style office chair range.
Delivery, BTW and returns for Dutch orders
It takes 4 to 5 days for an office chair to reach you in the Netherlands, and delivery is free whatever you spend. Your order is sent from within the EU. BTW is part of the euro price you see, and no customs charge is added on arrival.
If the chair is wrong for your height or your desk, you can return it within 14 days, free of charge. Shipping details for every country are on our delivery areas page.
A replica, and what that means
Every chair on this page is a replica. It is a newly made chair that follows the look of an Eames design. It is not an original, and it is not licensed by the design's owners.
Rules on copying furniture designs are not the same in every EU country. This page does not give legal advice about the Netherlands. Our legal disclaimer explains more, and we ask you to read it before ordering.

Office chair questions from the Netherlands
How quickly will my office chair arrive in the Netherlands, and is there anything extra to pay?
Expect it in 4 to 5 days. Delivery costs nothing, whatever the order size. It travels from our EU warehouse, so the price already includes BTW and nothing is charged at the door.
I am over 1.90 m. Will an Eames-style office chair suit me?
It depends on your knee height and the chair's seat height range, which each product page lists. Measure from the floor to the back of your knee in your usual shoes, and pick a high back model if you want support higher up. If you are unsure, send us your height and we will advise you.
Will my employer pay for my home office chair?
Some Dutch employers lend a chair or pay towards one, because the Arbowet makes them responsible for a healthy home workplace. Some only pay for chairs that meet the Dutch NPR 1813 guideline. Our chairs are replicas and are not sold as NPR 1813 certified, so check with your employer first.
Is every model covered in real leather?
No. Some models are leather, some are PU faux leather, and some are mesh. The product page names the cover on each chair, so you know what you are buying.
Will the castors mark my wooden, laminate or PVC floor?
Any chair on castors can wear a hard floor over time, because grit gets caught under the wheels. A clear chair mat under your desk protects it. To check the castor type on a model, ask us on live chat before you order.
What if the chair turns out too low for me?
Returns within 14 days of delivery cost you nothing. To start one, email hello@sederica.com. We can also help you pick a different model.
